THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Sacramento, Calif. โ€” The Sacramento Kings have the 24th pick in the 77th edition of the National Basketball Associationโ€™s Draft, which will be held on Thursday, June 22 in Brooklyn, New York.๐Ÿ“ฐ

Nearly two months after being ousted from the NBA playoffs โ€“ after missing postseason 16 straight times โ€“ The Kings will try to capitalize off a 48-34 record that delivered them a Pacific Division title and a No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.๐Ÿ“ฐ

In addition to the lone pick in the first round, the Kings have the 38th and 54th selections in the second round. As the fans learned last season, the Kings will need to enhance their defense by finding help on the wings and in the paint.๐Ÿ“ฐ

These needs could be found through the draft or free agency. There are a plethora of wings and big men available in the draft but landing one that could provide immediate assistance will be a task.๐Ÿ“ฐ

The Kings could use the services of Duke freshman Dereck Lively (7-foot-2), Michiganโ€™s Jett Howard (6-8), Kris Murray (6-8), Indianaโ€™s Trayce Jackson-Davis (6-8), Wake Forestโ€™s Bobi Klintman (6-10), Serbiaโ€™s Tristan Vukcevic (7-0), and Washington Stateโ€™s Mouhamed Gueye (6-11) are hopefuls.๐Ÿ“ฐ

โ€œOne great thing is when youโ€™re able to kind of breakthrough in the playoffs with a team as young as ours it gives you a chance to have a nice playoff run and have success in the playoffs. It doesnโ€™t guarantee anything so we gotta a lot of work to do. Forty-eight wins is fantastic for this group but teams that go deep into the playoffs are usually winning 50s or higher. So we know that we have to continue to improve internally and externally.โ€

โ€“ Monte McNair, General Manager of the Sacramento Kings.๐ŸŽ™

FROM THE FILES of NBA.com

โ€ข In the Associationโ€™s early years, when teams were struggling to include fan bases, the NBA Draft included territorial picks from 1947 to 1965. Before the start of the draft, a team could forfeit its first-round pick and instead select a player from its immediate area, presumably talent with a strong local following.๐ŸŽ™

โ€ข The First Lottery took place in 1985. Under the system adopted prior to the 1985 NBA Draft, the NBA Lottery determined the order of selection for the non-playoff teams (or the teams holding their picks through trades) for the first round only. Teams picked in inverse order of their records in the second round in all succeeding rounds.

โ€ข The San Antonio Spurs are set to make the first pick in the NBA Draft for the third time. The Spurs previously selected David Robinson (1987) and Tim Duncan (1997) with the No. 1 pick.๐ŸŽ™

โ€ข Iowaโ€™s Kris Murray is the twin brother of Sacramento Kings forward and former Iowa teammate Keegan Murray, the fourth pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.๐ŸŽ™

โ€ข Indianaโ€™s Trayce Jackson-Davis is the son of Dale Davis, who played 16 seasons in the NBA and was a one-time All-Star.๐ŸŽ™

โ€ข At least two international players have been selected in the top 10 of the NBA Draft in each of the last 10 years.๐ŸŽ™

โ€ข Thirteen international players have been selected first overall in the NBA Draft, most recently Deandre Ayton (Bahamas) in 2018.๐ŸŽ™

โ€ข The last international player who did not play basketball at a U.S. college to be selected first overall in the NBA Draft was Andrea Bargnani of Italy in 2006.๐ŸŽ™
